The Clinical and Gastrofiberscopic Studies on Chronic Gastritis

Abstract
The author studied on chronic gastritis with Gastrofibersope, GTF-A, for 129 cases who had visited department of Internal Medicine, Pusan National University Hospital since Jan to Sept. 1972.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. The frequency of each types of chronic gastritis diagnosed by Gastrofibercope was such as, superficial gastritis in 38.0%, atrophic gastritis in 48. 0% and hypertrophic gastritis in 5.4 % respectively.
2. The sex distribution of the cases observed was such as 58. 9% in male, 41. 1% in female and over all age distribution was most frequent in third decade (35.7%) and the remaining was in the following order 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th decade respectively.
The relationship between age group and types of chronic gastritis was such as superficial gastritis and atrophic gastritis were most frequent in 3rd decade and hypertrophic gastritis was in general infrequent compared with other two types.
3. The complaints of the cases observed were as follows, epigastric pain in 34.2%, indigestion in 31.8%, anorexia in 22.5%, epigastric discomfortness in 20.9%, acid regurgitation¢¥ in 20.9%, epigastric distention in 17.8% and heart burn in 11.6% respectively.
4. The relationship between gastroscopic finding and clinical symptoms or x-Ray finding as such as 8.5% was gastroscopically negative among the patient with G-I symptoms and 75.9% was gastroscopically positve, among the patients with negative finding on Roentgenologically and 78.4% was discrepant between gastroscopic and Roentgenological findings.
5. The author was impressed the Gastrofibercopy was necessary and some times essential in the diagnosis of chronic gastritis.
